We started the planning of this cinema before the construction of the house, so we were able to design it from scratch.
So as not to disturb the neighbours two stories below the cinema, we wanted a construction as soundproof as possible. The solution was to build a “room in the room” which is acustically disconnected from the rest of the house.
As required for a true cinema, the room has no windows.
Wall Design
Brick wall (replaced by wood here in the model)
Rubber element attached to the wall (center). Screwed onto that is one of the wooden
beams that hold the floating wall.
On both sides are patches of fiberglass insulation.
A layer of heavy bitumen for absorption of deep sound frequencies
Floating plasterboard wall
Layer of melamin foam for sound absorption to prevent echoing
Construction
The house was built in 1998.
The cinema room before the closing of the roof.
Tubes for the speaker cables were installed before the pooring of the floating cement floor (picture on the right).
Tubes for the floor heating were installed. The big grey pipe is to poor the cement (left).
The red caps cover the openings of the tubes for the speaker cables (right).
The beams to hold the floating walls were fixed on rubber elements (see „wall design“ below) (left).
Fiberglass insulation is added (right).
Tubes for the ceiling lights were fixed (left).
The floating plasterboard ceiling was installed (right).
The gaps between the plasterboards were evened out with plaster and the ventilation
tubes were covered (left).
The front wall is ready for painting (right).
Front wall, back wall and ceiling were painted with the darkest non reflecting paint
available (left and right).
Melamin foam sheets are being added to the side walls
to improve the acustics (right).
More melamin foam sheets (left).
The walls are finished. The floating cement floor
is covered with heavy bitumen and the red carpet is ready for laying (right).
Speaker cables were pulled through the tubes, the cable for the projector goes through
the wall, the electricity plugs have black covers (left).
The lid to the cable tubes
is closed and the black base boards are fixed (right).
